What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates uses Pilates-based exercises within an individual assessment and rehabilitation plan. The starting exercises, resistance and progression should reflect your symptoms, medical history and goals. It is not simply a general fitness class with the same routine for everyone.
Begin with an assessment
Discuss what you want to improve, previous experience, injuries and any medical restrictions. Ask which appointment or program is suitable and who will supervise it. Reception can confirm current Epping options, availability and fees before you book.
How it may fit into rehabilitation
Pilates-based work can be one way to practise movement control, strength and activity tolerance. It may sit alongside a home exercise program or other rehabilitation. It should have a clear purpose, a manageable starting point and regular review. No single exercise method suits every person or condition.
Pregnancy and after birth
Tell the team if you are pregnant or recently gave birth. Discuss exercise with your maternity care team and arrange an individual assessment before joining a program. Pelvic-floor symptoms, birth injuries or concerns about recovery may need a pelvic-health physiotherapist or medical review. See our pregnancy and postnatal guide.
Questions before booking
- Do I need an initial assessment?
- Who will supervise my sessions and how will exercises be adapted?
- What is the current fee, and does my insurer cover this appointment type?
- How will my progress and ongoing need for sessions be reviewed?
